Badri Burlian: Coconut Shell Charcoal Briquettes from Banten Exported to Saudi Arabia, Valued at Hundreds of Billions | Indonesian Charcoal News

Badri Burlian, an entrepreneur from Serang, has successfully expanded his business in the coconut shell charcoal briquette industry. His products recently made their inaugural export to Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone for his company, PT Harapan Agri Sentosa (HAS).

The first shipment, consisting of two containers holding 36 tons of charcoal briquettes worth IDR 552 million, was dispatched from Pancaniti Field, KP3B, Serang City, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. The export ceremony was officiated by Acting Governor of Banten Al Muktabar, Head of the Banten Trade and Industry Office Babar Suharso, and representatives from Customs.

Badri explained that his company started producing charcoal briquettes in 2018, initially catering only to the local market. Over time, they ventured into briquette production and participated in various production and marketing training programs, which led to this international export opportunity.

“We started production in 2018, initially selling charcoal locally. Gradually, we ventured into briquette production, attended numerous training sessions, and today, we’re proud to export our briquettes internationally,” Badri told Radar Banten.

Badri acknowledged the support he received from the Serang City Government and the Banten Provincial Government, which included participation in trade expos such as the ICE BSD Tangerang expo, where he secured buyers.

“By Allah’s grace, we will also be shipping briquettes to Uzbekistan in the coming months. For Saudi Arabia, we have secured a six-month contract,” added the Director of PT HAS.

Acting Governor Al Muktabar emphasized the Banten Provincial Government’s commitment to supporting MSMEs in expanding their reach to both national and international markets. He expressed hope that Badri would mentor other MSMEs in the briquette industry, encouraging them to maintain product quality and fulfill contract commitments to ensure customer satisfaction.

“We hope Mr. Badri inspires other MSME players in Banten. We advise maintaining product quality and contract commitments to satisfy consumers,” Muktabar stated.

Babar Suharso, Head of the Banten Trade and Industry Office, highlighted the region’s rich natural resources, which can be transformed into valuable products. He affirmed the office’s dedication to assisting MSMEs in both production and marketing, aiming for international market access.

“We regularly conduct industrial training and have collaborated with the Regional Customs Office to streamline export requirements for MSMEs. We also organize trade expos to connect Banten’s MSMEs with international buyers,” Suharso explained.

He concluded by noting that the charcoal briquette export was a direct result of a trade expo, where producers and buyers met and signed contracts.
